Success At World Championships
On 12th – 14th July 2013 Students from Sumners Taekwon-Do competed in the TI World Championships held in Coventry. This proved to be one of the largest Taekwon-Do Tournaments of recent years with over 3000 competitors over the 3 day event. Despite extremely tough competition from more than 40 countries, all of our students did us proud. A special “Well Done” goes out to junior competitor Ted Huggins for a well deserved Bronze Medal and to Craig Berg who came back with GOLD & is now World Adult Blue Belt Continuous Sparring Champion 2013 – Bringing the total to an incredible 8 world champions produced by Sumners Taekwon-Do. Well done all students from Sumners Taekwon- Do who took part. You are an inspiration to our club and the whole of the GTUK.
Master Oldham Promoted to Grand Master
On 23rd March 2013, at the end of a seminar conducted by Grand Master Kwang Hwang Sung IX the Grandmaster presented GTUK President Master Roy Oldham with his promotion to Ninth Degree Black Belt (Grand Master). Our students now have the great honour of being graded under a legitimate ITF Grand Master. Students from Sumners Taekwon-Do Gloucester continued their outstanding success on the national competition circuit when they travelled to Coventry to compete in the GTUK British Individual & Black Belt Team Championships 2014.
Despite only fielding a small 6 man team they returned home victorious with a medal haul of 4 Golds, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze. The team consisted of a mixture of youth and experience ranging from white belt to black belt members and all showed great tenacity and talent on the day.
In the Black Belt Tag-Team event Gloucester Black Belts Mr Jonjoe Preston and Mr Jake Hilton were joined by XS Scotland veteran Mr Jamie Phillips and fought their way into the semi finals, narrowly missing out of the medals and finishing in 4th place.
In the individual events Josh Barnett (white belt) in his first competition sparred with great enthusiasm to win the Bronze Medal and Zac Young (yellow belt) also in his first ever Taekwon-Do competition made an outstanding effort coming home with silver in sparring. Junior Red Belt Gareth Williams continued to dominate his division achieving double Gold (patterns & sparring) and adult Black Tag Craig Berg completed the teams success with double Gold (sparring & destruction)
Well done to all of you, you are an inspiration to the whole club.

Outstanding Success at the
GTUK British Championships October 2015
On Saturday 24th October 8 students from Sumners Taekwon-Do made the journey to Coventry to take part in this year's GTUK British Championships. This year's team differed from previous occasions as it consisted of almost all coloured belts, 3 of whom had never previously competed. The team was ably led by team captain Sophie Bladek, 1st Degree who was the only Black Belt competing for us this year.
Dispite a lack of experience the team soon showed that they were a force to be reckoned with and by the end of a long day they had achieved amazing results. For one of the few times in the long history of Sumners Taekwon-Do every member of the team came home with at least one medal.
Special recognition is due to Riley James who at the tender age of 6 years won Gold in his first ever tournament. He is also the youngest competitor to represent our club in many years - Come on all you youngsters it's time to follow Riley's example and have some fun at a competition!!
We would also like to give mention to adult yellow tag's Joshua Brickel (Gold) and Jack Baylis (Double Gold) who also competed for the first time.
Finally, special thanks to team captain Sophie Bladek who as well as supporting and encouraging all members of the team still found the time (and energy) to win an amazing 3 medals (Double Gold and 1 Bronze).
