GTUK 'Rainbow' Taekwon-Do grading syllabus

(6 to 9 year olds)

The Rainbow Syllabus encourages young children to become strong Taekwon-Do students in preparation for entering the Full Traditional Syllabus (10 year olds to adult). This has now been proven and well established. Safety gear must be introduced at an early stage to children of this age group (helmet especially).

'Rainbow' students continue to take 3 monthly grading tests but at a less technical level concentrating on the student's development of coordination and concentration together with knowledge of basic Taekwon-Do techniques and Traditional Taekwon-Do Patterns.

Traditional Taekwon-Do grading syllabus

(Ages 10 years to adult)

The Traditional Taekwon-Do Syllabus is taught to all students aged 10 years & above with just a few variations for the younger students.

Ages 10 to 11 year olds (known as "Peewee's") learn the full traditional syllabus with the exception of "Set Sparring" and "Destruction" (power breaking techniques).

12 to 16 year olds (juniors) learn the full syllabus excluding "Destruction" (which is only taught to adults).

Adult students (17 years and above) learn the full GTUK Traditional Taekwon-Do Syllabus The syllabus contains all aspects of traditional Taekwon-Do including traditional patterns, set sparring, self defence techniques, semi contact sparring (with safety equipment) and destruction (power breaking techniques).

Grading tests are taken every 3 months up to Blue Belt and then every 6 months as the standards and techniques become more demanding and technical.
